West Ham agree £1million fee for Conor Coventry exit to Charlton, deal could be completed on Friday
West Ham United will receive a fee in the region of £1million from Charlton Athletic for Conor Coventry, according to the Irish Independent.
The newspaper reported on its website on Thursday (11 January) that the Hammers had agreed a seven-figure fee for the 23-year-old midfielder to exit the London Stadium during the January transfer window.
Should the paperwork clear in time and Coventry pass his medical in the next 24 hours, he could be set to feature for Charlton Athletic and make his debut against Burton Albion in League One on Saturday 13 January.

According to Richard Cawley (11 January), Coventry’s camp had remained in talks with Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, up until Thursday, but withdrew from talks in the afternoon as a permanent deal was reached with Charlton.
Good fee
West Ham want to raise cash during the January transfer window so that they are able to go out and do some recruitment themselves ahead of the second half of the Premier League season.
To do that they are going to have to reduce their wage bill first and the best way of doing that is by getting players who aren’t part of David Moyes’ plans out of the door. Coventry won’t be one of the Hammers’ biggest earners, but his wage is now not a problem for West Ham.

On top of that, it is an excellent piece of business from the Irons to sell a player who hasn’t made a single appearance so far this season for a seven-figure fee, especially given his young age.
Most West Ham supporters will wish the 23-year-old well with his new club, but they won’t mind seeing the back of him if it helps Moyes finally add to his squad this month.
