West Ham ace Soucek soars into top 10 of Sky Sports PL Power Rankings
Tomas Soucek’s excellent recent form for West Ham has seen him break into the top 10 of Sky Sport’s Premier League Power Rankings this week, after the midfielder’s equaliser against Brighton on Sunday.
The weekly rankings take into consideration the previous five league games, weighted incrementally from the most recent outing from a player.
With a score of 7,023, Soucek has climbed 12 places to ninth in the standings, between Manchester United’s Scott McTominay (eighth) and Everton’s Yerry Mina (10th).
The rise of Soucek won’t be a surprise to most Hammers fans, with the giant Czech Republic midfielder in terrific form of late, scoring three goals in his last five appearances.
Soucek has a way to go to reach top spot, however, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez currently edging out Liverpool marksman Mohamed Salah.
With away trips to Southampton and Everton next on the horizon for West Ham, Soucek will do well to make his mark on two of the league’s most impressive sides this term, but you wouldn’t back against it, such has been the 25-year-old’s positive impact on the Hammers.
Benrahma to come in from the cold?
While Soucek continues to assert himself as an essential figure in the West Ham side, manager David Moyes has a number of selection issues ahead of him as he races to find his best side to arrest a run of three Premier League games without a win.
The Hammers have failed to beat Brighton, Chelsea and Crystal Palace in their last three games, despite playing struggling sides Brighton and Palace at home.
One man hoping to start in West Ham’s last game of 2020 against Southampton is winger Said Benrahma, who has failed to start either of the last two games, and the 25-year-old not even feature from the bench against Brighton on Sunday.
The Algerian, signed on an initial loan deal from Championship outfit Brentford in October, is yet to score for his new side, but the lack of attacking impetus shown by Moyes’ side recently, especially from open play, has caused fans to question his lack of game time.
With his side slowly sliding down the Premier League table, and with only five points separating West Ham in 10th and Arsenal in 15th, Moyes will need to call upon some fresh legs to boost his ailing side in the upcoming games.
