West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen reveals what he told David Moyes in farewell chat

Jarrod Bowen has revealed that he has had a private conversation with David Moyes to thank him ahead of the manager’s summer departure from West Ham.

Moyes is set to leave his post upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, with Julen Lopetegui expected to replace him.

And Bowen was keen to share his gratitude with Moyes as the season draws to a close, with just one game remaining.

In quotes reported in the Mirror’s print edition (page 9, 13 May), Bowen said: “He is one of the best people I have worked with, and I had a chat with him in the week just to say thank you really.

“I wouldn’t be here without him. I wanted to do that to show how appreciative I am and will be going on through my career.

“I can’t just do it this season, I have to do it next season and the one after that.”

West Ham United fans will thank David Moyes for Jarrod Bowen

While many Hammers fans are looking forward to a change of face in the dugout, they will be hoping talismanic forward Bowen does not follow Moyes out the door this summer.

The winger has been one of Moyes’ most successful signings since arriving in from Hull City January 2020, a year into the Scotsman’s second spell as West Ham’s head coach.

Since then, Bowen has gone on to make 202 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 60 goals and registering 39 assists [Transfermarkt].

Of those 60 goals, none will be remembered more than his late winner in the Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina to secure the club’s first trophy since 1980.

West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen
Jarrod Bowen has scored some important goals for West Ham United this season.

This season, he has scored 20 times across all competitions – with 16 coming in the Premier League – becoming the first Hammers player to break the 20-goal barrier for the club since Marlon Harewood, who did so almost two decades ago.

West Ham will hope Bowen can continue to deliver seasons like this at West Ham for many years to come.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers could well have found their first signing under Lopetegui after a new David Ornstein update.
