West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen makes ‘phenomenal’ Bukayo Saka and Mohamed Salah claim

West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen is attempting to model his game on Mohamed Salah and the “phenomenal” Bukayo Saka.

Salah has once again been a star turn for a Liverpool side who have underperformed this season, while Bowen’s England team-mate Saka has been a leading light for Premier League title challengers Arsenal.

Bowen is one of West Ham’s main players and has five goals and four assists for a side sitting 15th in the table with three games to go, but the former Hull City man is keen to keep learning from the best.

“I still think Salah [is who I model my game on],” Bowen said in quotes reported by the Metro.

“He has scored 30 goals, and people still say he is having a bad season. I think for the numbers he has produced consistently since he has been in the Premier League, he is still up there.

“But I also think Bukayo as well at Arsenal. I had the honour of playing with him for England and I saw how good he was.

“This season he has been phenomenal. Those two are the ones for me for the numbers they produce and the quality they play with.”

Moyes should throw all his eggs in the Conference League basket

Bowen will be hugely important for West Ham over the coming week, with the Hammers facing a Europa Conference League semi-final double header either side of a trip to Brentford on Sunday 14 May.

While West Ham, who are 15th, have not mathematically secured safety from relegation, a seven-point buffer over Leicester City with only three games to go means they can breathe a little easier.

Which is why manager David Moyes should now focus solely on West Ham’s continental adventure and their quest for a first major European trophy since winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965.

The victors of the Conference League get a spot in next season’s Europa League, the secondary UEFA competition, and thus the opportunity to steal a march on any rivals looking at similar transfer targets who would be unable to offer European football.

It would take a huge turn of events to drop down into the Championship from here, so why not focus fully on bringing home the trophy?
