‘We have tried’ – Moyes admits West Ham have had no striker bids accepted

West Ham have made ‘big inquiries’ in their hunt for a new striker but none of their offers have been accepted, according to David Moyes.

The Irons are in the market for a new striker after selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax earlier this month but we are yet to see any new faces arrive at the London Stadium.

Speaking after Saturday’s win against Burnley, Moyes admitted that he may not sign a new striker if he doesn’t think that any of the candidates are the right fit.

Moyes is quoted by Football.London as saying, “We’ve already made big inquiries and offers for players at clubs, which have not been accepted or obviously we would have signed somebody.

“It is not as if we are not trying to that, we have tried. But I need to get players who I think can make a difference and I want it to be someone who I think can help us.

“If I don’t then I might need to look short term, just to get me through to get me another player, but if not then I will use the young players or I will have to try and use someone else from the squad.”

The Irons have been linked with a number of new strikers this month and based on Moyes’ comments we may have submitted bids for some of them.

Moyes is right when he alludes to not bringing in a striker if he isn’t absolutely sure that the player can make a difference.

The recruitment at the London Stadium used to be so poor but we have seen that change recently with the excellent signings of Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek.

We can’t afford, both figuratively and literally, to bring a player to the club who isn’t the right fit.

In other words, there is no point in signing a striker for the sake of signing a striker even though we definitely need back up for Michail Antonio.

Antonio has been very injury prone this season and we need someone who is able to step in if the 30-year-old is sidelined again.

Hopefully, something can be arranged soon with the club bidding for plenty of players and seemingly being one of the more active Premier League clubs this January.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are also reportedly chasing a Ligue 1 midfielder.
