Wayne Rooney details disrespect to West Ham boss David Moyes after Gary Neville question

Wayne Rooney says senior players at Manchester United “weren’t having” current West Ham boss David Moyes during his time at Old Trafford.

The Scot was famously sacked in April 2014 just 10 months after replacing compatriot Sir Alex Ferguson following his 26-year tenure in the dugout.

Four full-time managers have been employed by the club since, with Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick also having temporary stints.

Rooney, speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast (21 February, 36m 12s), was asked about Moyes’ tenure by both Gary Neville and Roy Keane.

“No, I think it was always going to be difficult for him. I knew David from when he was at Everton and he wasn’t the same as when he was at Everton,” Rooney said.

“So, I think obviously it was a massive change for him as well. So I don’t think he did as well as he would have liked but I also think there was a lack…from more senior players, weren’t having him, that was very difficult for him.

“Moyesy’s really hands on in terms of which way the bus goes to the game and stuff like that on the training pitch he’s really hands on, that was a big difference as well.”

Will West Ham sack David Moyes like Manchester United did?

Moyes has had stints at Sunderland and Real Sociedad as well as the Hammers following his time at Manchester United.

It is with the Hammers really where he has done a good job of rebuilding his reputation as a top-flight operator, especially last season when he led the club to the Europa Conference League trophy.

Right now, though, the Irons are in a rancid run of form. Just a few months ago it looked like Moyes was going to be handed a new contract. Now there is talk that Graham Potter and Julen Lopetegui are in the running to replace Moyes at the end of the campaign.

West Ham
David Moyes has found himself under increasing pressure at West Ham United.

For sure, it looks as though West Ham have a difficult sack decision to make in the coming weeks. Do you stick with Moyes? Or do you make the same decision Manchester United made a decade ago.

Right now, it certainly looks as though the latter call might win the day.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers reportedly want to sign a Serie A ace this summer.
