Wan-Bissaka gets ultimate accolade today after West Ham move from Man United

Darren Bent selected West Ham United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.

The 27-year-old has been a revelation for the Hammers since his arrival from Manchester United in the summer, and recently single-handedly saved Julen Lopetegui in East London after his “astonishing” moment in the 1-1 draw against Brighton (21 December).

Bent has been thoroughly impressed with the defender’s resurgence at the London Stadium, so much so that he named Wan-Bissaka as the best right-back in the Premier League thus far live on Sky Sports News (29 December, 2:14pm).

He said: “Wan-Bissaka, I think he’s done really well for West Ham since he’s got there. Right-back was a situation [that] I did toy with others, but I’m with him.”

West Ham United got it right with Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The Hammers are heading into the clash against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday (29 December) in good stead after picking up eight points from the last 12 available.

While Lopetegui is not expected to pick up further points against Arne Slot’s side, the growing pressure on his future in East London has subsided for the time being, and a defeat will have no severe consequences on his tenure.

However, West Ham went into the 2024/25 campaign with European aspirations, and David Sullivan dug deep into his pockets throughout the summer to ensure a charge that ultimately fell flat.

Wan-Bissaka remains the only success story from this summer’s exploits, and despite failing to meet the mark at Manchester United, he is thriving at the London Stadium.

He will have the tall task of nullifying the attacking threat of either Cody Gakpo or Luis Diaz on the right flank on Sunday, but the supporters will have all the confidence in his ability to do so.

The former England Under-21s international rightfully deserves his place among the best eleven in the Premier League so far, and he can make Bent’s decision all the more satisfying with a dominant performance against Liverpool, regardless of the end result.

In other West Ham news, talks have opened with the agent of an international striker who is a proven goalscorer in England.
