Wages claim emerges as Atalanta and Inter Milan in transfer battle to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca

Atalanta are currently offering more in wages than Inter Milan to sign West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca this summer, according to Matteo Moretto.

The Spanish journalist claimed on Friday (4 August) that Atalanta were in fact offering better wages than the Milan outfit for the 24-year-old.

The Italy international is understood to be keen on leaving this summer and returning to his home country after a tough first year at the club.

Moretto wrote on Twitter, “Theme Gianluca Scamacca. Currently, Atalanta offer more to both West Ham and the player than Inter. The forward opens up to the possibility of going to Bergamo. Key hours.”

Bidding war

The Hammers signed Scamacca for big money last summer and thus far he’s not proven to be worth the outlay.

David Moyes did not seem to trust him right from the off and often preferred to start Michail Antonio ahead of the Italian.

Now, if the Hammers are getting good money for him then by all means they should look to cash in on him and bring in someone who Moyes rates.

There have already been a handful of exits this summer at the club with Declan Rice certainly being the highest profile of the lot.

Scamacca is certainly going to be the second biggest one if he does leave and that looks to be the reality, as things stand.

It’s going to be an eventful few weeks at the London Stadium and chaotic, to say the least, given the tension behind the scenes.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
