Vladimir Coufal on ‘special’ West Ham season and top four ambition
West Ham defender Vladimir Coufal has commented on the club’s hopes for the season.
The Hammers beat Chelsea 3-2 on Saturday (4 December) to once again prove that they are able to compete with the Premier League’s best.
David Moyes’s side currently sit fourth in the league table, two points ahead of fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, Coufal admitted that West Ham still have work to do but believes they can achieve their top four dream.
“Are we capable of something special? Yes,” he said.
“We beat United, then City [on penalties in the Carabao Cup] at this stadium and also Liverpool so it could be a wonderful season for us.
“It is a special season. We’re in the Europa League after I don’t know how many years. We will be there in the next half of the season because we got first in the group and we want to be as high as possible in the Premier League.
“It is just about hard work in the sessions and to be confident on the pitch.
“Of course we want to be as high as possible in the table but we are still not on this level like Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City.
“We are trying to get on this level. Sometimes we play good against these teams sometimes we play bad but we are in a process. Sometimes we are able to deliver this beautiful result.”

Genuine contenders
After Saturday’s 3-2 win over Chelsea – which came just a month after West Ham beat Liverpool by the same scoreline – the Hammers have to be talked about as genuine top four contenders.
The Premier League season is not at the halfway point yet so of course there is still a long way to go, but their performances show a team who have both the desire and the quality to achieve their ambition.
It will not be easy, as managerial changes at Tottenham and Manchester United may inspire the two clubs to get their seasons back on track, while Arsenal appear to be getting their act together too.
West Ham will need to cut out results like their recent loss against Wolves and draw against Brighton, but if they can bring in reinforcements in January then they have as good a chance as their competitors of finishing in the top four.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers need to act fast to sign this 14-goal striker.
