View: Why West Ham must sign Attila Szalai
The Athletic have provided a comprehensive breakdown of Attila Szalai and he would be an ideal fit for West Ham United who have been previously linked with the Fenerbahce defender.
In their ’60 players clubs will be watching at the Euros’ piece, The Athletic have included the Hungary defender and have reported on West Ham’s interest in him.
Szalai has been subject to transfer interest from the likes of Leicester, West Ham, and other clubs in Spain and Italy.
The report states that he’s valued at £20 million, but Fenerbahce are unlikely to sell him for that price and will look to take advantage of the growing interest in his services which could even spark a bidding war in a few weeks.
Must get him
Left-footed centre-backs are a luxury in today’s day and age, and especially ones with the kind of talent Szalai possesses.
We’ve been linked with the Hungarian since April [Aspor], but since then there have been other clubs that have stepped in to complicate things further.
These Euros will be the perfect audition for the centre-back, but we’ve seen enough of him to know he would fit in seamlessly in our defence.
Not only is he solid defensively, but he’s also extremely adept at building from the back. His 72/99 progressive passing score suggests that he’s not just looking for the safer pass or the long ball into the final third, but instead relies on precision to find the right pass and kick-start his team’s attack.
When the pass isn’t available he also looks assured carrying the ball out of defence – showcasing confidence both in and out of possession.
He’s almost certain to be on the move this summer and we’re hoping he joins us.
