View: West Ham must move for Axel Tuanzebe in January

West Ham should reignite their interest in Axel Tuanzebe in January with David Moyes desperate to land a defender.

Tuanzebe joined Aston Villa on loan this summer from Manchester United, but he hasn’t enjoyed a fruitful campaign, managing only 11 appearances thus far.

The centre-back has a contract at United till 2023, and the Red Devils have the option to extend it for another year.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the Red Devils “would be willing to listen to offers” as they look to bring in some funds. They value him at around £25 million.

West Ham showed interest in signing the 24-year-old during the summer [ExWHUemployee], but Villa fended off competition and paid a £4 million loan fee to secure his signature.

Serie A giants Napoli want to sign the defender on loan and West Ham should take that approach.

The Hammers must look to secure a loan deal with an option to sign him permanently next summer if he really makes an impact at the London club. It will be a risk-free business, one that suits all parties involved.

West Ham are lacking depth in defence at the moment following injuries to Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.

David Moyes is left with little option, while he would be worried about the form of Issa Diop who hasn’t been convincing in recent games.

Tuanzebe has previously shown his class in the Premier League, with former Aston Villa boss, Dean Smith hailing him as an “unbelievable” player.

He is young, experienced, and highly talented. His price range is within West Ham’s budget and he could be a solid addition to the squad.
