View: Rio Ferdinand tweet on Declan Rice will leave West Ham fans fuming
Rio Ferdinand has suggested on his personal Twitter account that Manchester United must sign West Ham midfielder Declan Rice this summer.
The former Premier League and Champions League winner was asked by a fan about which number 6 would he like Manchester United to sign.
He responded in an extremely cheeky manner, ‘Welcome Declan Rice’.
Man United, Man City and Chelsea have been linked with Rice’s services this summer.
However, his valuation, which according to David Moyes is ‘far more’ than £100 million [The Telegraph], may put off some if not all of his suitors.
Dream on, Rio
Him trying to unsettle Rice in the midst of an international tournament is embarrassing, to say the least, but it doesn’t matter.
Rio’s not wrong to want Man United to sign Rice this summer. He’s a world class midfielder who’s getting better with each passing season and is expected to be in his prime in a few years.
Rice is also a full England international and one of the first names on Gareth Southgate’s teamsheet. He’s certainly one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League – which is what makes him so valuable and that much more in demand.
Even if West Ham wanted to cash in or if Rice wanted to leave, his valuation is too much for any club to realistically sign him unless they’re happy to sign other mediocre players as Rice’s transfer will take a huge chunk from their transfer kitty.
Even for sides like City and Chelsea that have owners putting millions of pounds into their teams each summer, tend to draw the line at some point.
Rice seems to be enjoying life at the London Stadium and has just witnessed his side qualify for the Europa League.
Who knows what will happen next season if we invest big this summer and sign the right players?
West Ham are certainly a club on the rise and Rice can realise his dreams with us.
