View: David Moyes hints West Ham transfer blueprint

West Ham will face Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday [19 February] at the London Stadium, and it’s expected to be a cracking contest.

The Magpies are emerging as Nouveau riche following Saudi investment at the club and are now seen as a major threat to others.

While at one point in time, it looked like they would head into relegation, now with three consecutive wins, all of a sudden, the picture looks different.

West Ham have their own ambition. They want to break it into the top four, but Moyes has reiterated the club’s policy of gradual evolution.

Both the clubs are different in how they plan to operate, and Moyes has insisted that the club do not need a huge influx of cash to operate.

“I’ll tell you what it does mean – we’re not a club that needs money,” said Moyes, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“People can talk whatever they like but we’re not a club that needs money, so from that point of view, we are in a much better position than we have ever been in years gone by.

“I see there being another growth period here. I really do. There is a chance to go again. We’re not a football club that needs money anymore. We’re in a good place.”

That doesn’t mean he has defended the club’s inability to sign a player in January.

He simply meant that the club will continue to invest in adding players as per the need.

West Ham did make attempt to sign players like Leeds United duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips in the January transfer window, but their approaches were rebuffed.

It’s going to be an important summer for the club. If they manage to secure a top-four spot, they would be in a good position to attract top players with the lure of Champions League football.

They will also be in a strong position to offer Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen new lucrative contracts.
