Urgent West Ham United transfer news as three-name shortlist emerges

West Ham are searching for a new attacker with “urgency” amid a plethora of devastating injuries, according to The Mirror.

Ryan Taylor reported for the newspaper on Wednesday [10 January] that three players have emerged on the Hammers’ shortlist, with Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Konstantinos Mavropanos all set for extended spells on the sidelines.

It is understood that former Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn, Sunderland star Jack Clarke and Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa are all potential signings that West Ham are targeting.

Hammer blow

David Moyes has been dealt a hammer blow after the injuries to his key attacking duo, Bowen and Paqueta. Mavropanos will also be a huge miss, with Nayef Aguerd away on international duty, Kurt Zouma at risk from injury and Angelo Ogbonna’s age a concern.

In addition, Thilo Kehrer has departed on loan to Monaco, leaving Moyes light in defence. Despite this, it appears West Ham are targeting attacking players rather than defenders. This could be a risky move, but Michail Antonio’s injury and Danny Ings’ inability have left them with no choice.

With Bowen as West Ham’s top scorer in all competitions, and Paqueta as the driving force in the final third of the pitch with the second-best assist record this season, the Hammers’ second half of the campaign could be tanked.

West Ham United

West Ham are sitting in sixth in the Premier League, five points behind Tottenham in fifth, and have the opportunity for more success in Europe, having claimed the top spot in Group A of the Europa League.

Without reinforcements, all of the squad’s hard work and determination could be undone by serious injuries and a lack of depth.
