Update emerges on West Ham United quest to sign Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana

West Ham chief Tim Steidten wants the club to sign Moncao midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer with David Moyes’ stance revealed by the Guardian.

The British newspaper wrote on its website [29 July] that the Scotsman is against signing the France international.

It’s been reported that the 24-year-old is now likely to move elsewhere given the Hammers boss is not too keen on securing his services.

Tension building

It’s been reported that there is tension between Moyes and Steidten and perhaps the profile of players they want to sign is different.

Given where the bids are being made, it seems that Moyes fancies more homegrown players and build that core to replace Declan Rice and Mark Noble.

Steidten has worked abroad before and has different ideas and a different calibre of midfielder he’s suggesting to the Hammers this summer.

It remains to be seen who ends up signing but this sort of appointment by the club undermines the manager and that may not be a good thing.

The time to sack Moyes was last season and if the decision was made to keep him, then he needs someone to understand the signings he needs.

Yet another summer where the manager is being hung out to dry by the board and then will pay the price if things go wrong.

L’Equipe report that in case the Hammers want to sign Fofana, they will have to pay £30million.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
