UK Athletics could quit London Stadium & open door to West Ham United transformation – report

UK Athletics are in talks to quit the London Stadium which could open the door for a West Ham United transformation.

That’s according to the Telegraph, which shares that the athletics national governing body could walk away from the £760million centre-piece from the 2012 Olympics.

It is shared that the Irons could then transform the stadium into a full-time football stadium in the future.

There are some major concerns though.

UK Athletics walking away from the stadium would raise big questions regarding the legacy of that Olympics.

It is said though that the stadium could still be used as part of a future bid for any games such as the Olympics though.

One thing it would allow the Irons to do is to tear up the huge athletics track that surrounds the football pitch at the moment.

Perfect.

This would be a huge step for the Irons.

With talks ongoing, it would appear that a big development could be on the horizon with UK Athletics after this season ends.

Karen Brady has previously admitted that the Hammers could look at fully purchasing the stadium in the future, and this could accelerate those plans.

UK Athletics have refused to comment on these reports, so none of this is yet to be confirmed as of yet.

West Ham have often had to face complaints from travelling fans that the London Stadium is not made for football, with the stands too far from the pitch.

Being able to get rid of that athletic track would be huge, and could even make room for a bigger capacity down the line, although it would take some serious reshuffling.

This is certainly one to keep an eye on moving forward in the coming weeks and months.
