Turning point emerges in West Ham United transfer pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has now accepted a move to West Ham on loan in January, according to Seb Ecrivain.

The editor of Weekend Sports Magazine Mercato exclusively revealed that the England international will seal a quick move to the London Stadium.

A number of clubs were interested in signing the 28-year-old, but the Hammers look to have won the race to secure his services.

Via Twitter, Ecrivain wrote: “New turning point in the Kalvin Phillips case. The midfielder of Manchester City could quickly make the trip to West Ham. Advanced discussions between the two teams. The player is ok to join the Hammers and get playing time again.”

First signing of the window

The Hammers have seen the departures of Conor Coventry and Thilo Kehrer, but are yet to seal a signing this month.

By the looks of it, Philipps will be that signing for the Whites and it remains to be seen where he fits in at West Ham.

Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have done brilliantly in the middle of the park and the 28-year-old is joining because of the guarantee of first-team football.

It could be that David Moyes now plans to play a three-man midfield and continue with Lucas Paqueta on the left wing as it’s worked this season.

However, an out-and-out striker to replace Michail Antonio is also needed and whether that happens now or the summer, remains to be seen.

It’s good to see the Hammers kick-starting their January transfers and hopefully there are at least one or two more new faces through the door before the deadline.

In other West Ham news, a £50m FFP update has emerged on a midfielder linked with a move to the London Stadium.
