Troy Deeney shares what Michail Antonio told him in new West Ham update
Troy Deeney has shared that Michail Antonio told him he is on a positive track with his recovery.
The striker has been out of action for West Ham since December after being involved in a car accident that left him with a broken leg.
The 34-year-old was discharged from hospital on 31 December and will now be focusing on his recovery although it is unlikely that he will be able to play again this term.
Speaking live on talkSPORT, Deeney shared a positive update on Antonio as he said (15 January, 1:23pm): “I was literally speaking to Michael Antonio this morning, just checking in on him and I just think when you start hearing about like his accident and the things that have gone on, it’s just great to see West Ham and Michs in a good place moving forward with a little less noise around them now.”
When asked if he is recovering well, Deeney said: “Yeah, he’s working to be fit but he’s just grateful for life and you know, he’s got kids and basically just my chat was around that regard like I don’t care when he’s back playing as long as he’s healthy and his kids get to see him.
“I think he’s a wonderful personality, I do. I think we’re in a day and age where everyone’s a little bit sheepish about being their true selves and when you’ve got a pure soul like that, we should really embrace it. So yeah, was just chatting to him about that really.”
West Ham hope for a positive Michail Antonio recovery
The Hammers have been highly supportive of Antonio since his accident and it is positive news that the striker is out of hospital and seemingly recovering well.
His club were quick to raise money which was donated to the NHS and Air Ambulances UK for their services following the accident showing how good the supporters in East London have been.
However, it remains unlikely that the 34-year-old will appear again for the Irons this term although, as Deeney points out, the key thing in this case is the health of the player rather than putting a time frame on his return.

Graham Potter may need to be looking at bringing in attacking reinforcement during the transfer window though given Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug are also injured this term.
However, even with new faces through the door, Antonio will no doubt receive his club’s full support going forward including discussions over extending his contract beyond its expiry in the summer.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been called out as “embarrassing” by Darren Bent following transfer news he was told.
