Trevor Sinclair: West Ham fans always demand the best from players like other fans

West Ham United hero Trevor Sinclair has attempted to clear the air about the famous belief that the Hammers supporters are hostile.

The London Stadium outfit will be playing in the group stages of the Europa League’s for the first time this season after finishing sixth in the Premier League last term.

However, some neutrals claim West Ham would have struggled to impress had their fans been in the stadium last season given their impatience, but Sinclair insists that is not so.

The ex-Irons said on talkSPORT, as shared on their official Twitter account: “Any fan base, if you see your players getting beat and not give their 100%, the fans are going to get hostile, and I think West Ham fans are exactly the same.

“If they don’t see 100% effort from their players out there on the pitch, giving everything for the badge for the fans, they are going to kick off.

“If everyone gives their all and lose 3-0 the fans will clap them off. So I don’t understand why West Ham have this reputation of being a harsh fan base because they are no different to any other fans around the country.”

Without a doubt

Nobody wants to see a player or team fail to give their best all the time, and it is only normal for us to demand nothing but top performances from the them all the time.

West Ham fans are back in the stadium this season after many months, and they will be eager to cheer David Moyes and his men on again.

Their overwhelming support could have even inspired the team to a top-four finish towards the end of last season when the team appeared tired and badly in need of a 12th man.

The London Stadium could turn into a fortress this season, and making visiting teams uncomfortable playing at our home ground could help boost our chances of impressing again.

David Sullivan and David Gold will not be getting any warm welcome soon, though, and the PAI Capital takeover bid is likely to see the fans even turn against them the more.

We deserve to get the best services from the players and owners every time, and failure to do that will always attract the boos and grumblings.
