Trevor Sinclair urges Rice to snub Manchester United for Manchester City

Trevor Sinclair does not see Declan Rice leaving West Ham for a move to Manchester United in the summer.

Rice has been linked with a move to Man United as well as Manchester City, and Sinclair believes that the latter would tempt the England international.

This comes after the Telegraph broke the story in the summer that the 22-year-old had turned down two contract extensions at the London Stadium.

West Ham

Speaking about it on talkSPORT, Sinclair said, “I don’t think he’d move to Manchester United, I really don’t. If you look at both teams and both sets of players, he’s better off staying at West Ham for me.

“There’s a bit of glory there [Man United], obviously, because they’ve got 75,000 fans in the stadium, they’re supported throughout the world. But where have you got a better chance of picking up silverware?

“I think if Declan Rice had the opportunity, and you have to say Fernandinho’s not going to continue to play on, they will be looking for a replacement holding midfielder to compete with Rodri for that holding-midfield role.”

Will he leave?

Rice is not even close to hitting his peak so he’s under no real pressure to play for a Champions League side.

He’s only 22 and could consider leaving in a couple of years, at the bare minimum, as there’s very little reason for him to leave.

West Ham

Since the start of last season, West Ham have proven that they’re capable enough to make that next step and back-to-back top six finishes could be enough to keep Rice on for another season.

Given how they’re faring this time around, even a Champions League spot is not beyond reach, given how inconsistent the chasing pack have been, bar Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Should West Ham keep up this level of consistency, Rice would be foolish to miss their first season in the Champions League.

His future depends on how well the Hammers fare and as things stand, he seems to be very happy with life in East London.

In other West Ham news, Angelo Ogbonna’s injury has forced them to show an interest in a ‘Fantastic’ international defender with the possibility of signing him in January.
