Trevor Sinclair marvels in Andriy Yarmolenko’s ‘amazing courage’ in West Ham v Aston Villa
West Ham United bounced back from three successive defeats to overcome a tough test against Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa at the London Stadium.
Andriy Yarmolenko opened the scoring in the second half having only just come on in place of Michail Antonio before Pablo Fornals doubled the lead ten minutes later.
Jacob Ramsey got a late consolation for Villa but David Moyes’s side hung on to clinch a crucial three points in the race for European football next season.
Trevor Sinclair hails ‘Amazing’ West Ham ace in 2-1 win v Villa, he blasted him a few weeks ago
“I criticised Yarmolenko’s effort a few weeks ago so want to give him massive praise after his goal,” Sinclair said via his personal Twitter account.
“He’s shown amazing courage in the light of what is going (on) in his homeland of Ukraine so feel me and many Hammers fans should recognize his contribution today.”
In the grand scheme of things
Yarmolenko was visibly emotional both when he scored and when the full-time whistle was blown because he knows how much he is loved in Ukraine.

The 32-year-old is something of a national treasure and these past two weeks have been incredibly tough for him and his fellow Ukrainians.
So, to not only make himself available but to come on and score in such an important game is a huge showing of his character.
It will be a goal he remembers for the rest of his life and he won’t be the only one who will be able to recall that moment many years down the line.
Moyes needed Yarmolenko to come up trumps badly having seen Antonio go off seemingly injured which will be of great concern to the Scot.
But Yarmolenko has proven today that he can fill the void and provide the goals West Ham need to be successful this season.
