Trevor Sinclair hails ‘incredible’ West Ham after 3-0 victory v Lyon

West Ham booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals last night as they took Lyon apart in France, winning 3-0 at the Groupama Stadium.

Craig Dawson got the party started in the first half before Declan Rice added a second before half-time and Jarrod Bowen completed the scoring moments after the break to put the icing on a 4-1 aggregate win.

It is the Hammers’ first European semi-final since 1976 and former Irons striker Trevor Sinclair was loving what he saw in Lyon last night.

Sinclair took to Twitter to share his joy at the Irons’ result saying, “Incredible performance, superb lads. Enjoy & stay safe Hammers fans,”

West Ham will take on Eintracht Frankfurt for a place in the final after the Bundesliga side shocked Barcelona at the Nou Camp, winning 3-2.

Favourites

Despite Frankfurt’s surprise victory in Spain, you would still put the favourites tag on West Ham if you were pushed to choose but it won’t be straightforward.

Not only to reach the final but to win the competition altogether with RB Leipzig set to play Rangers in the other semi-final.

West Ham

In both cases, it is Germany against Great Britain on the continent with glory on the line, where have we heard that before?

David Moyes though can’t immediately be thinking about that semi-final with some crucial Premier League ties to come and the prospect of a top-four finish still a faint possibility.

It is all part of the challenge of balancing the battle on more than one front and that is something West Ham haven’t needed to do until this season.

But we’ve dealt with it incredibly well and Moyes has to take a lot of that credit because, without him, we wouldn’t be anyway near this level.

In other West Ham news, Frank McAvennie has reacted to a potential £75million signing the Irons are chasing.
