Trevor Sinclair defends West Ham fans after ‘pressure off’ claims

Trevor Sinclair has launched a passionate defence of West Ham fans after Ian ‘Moose’ Abrahams attributed this season’s success to their absence from stadiums.

Moose issued a withering assessment of Irons supporters on talkSPORT Breakfast with Alan Brazil [06:00, 16/04/21].

He said: “I do think that without fans the pressure has been taken off the players,” before Brazil later read out a text from Moose after his call, where he said: “You mark my words, once we get the fans back we’ll be fighting relegation again.”

Ex-West Ham hero Sinclair bit back at those claims on the same show.

“The only time West Ham fans will have a go is if you’re not pulling your weight, not giving 100% and you’re getting beat,” he said.

“So what Moose is saying is a load of old nonsense and disgraceful.

“When they’re singing your name and they’re behind the team they are absolutely unbelievable.

“So Moose, hang your head in shame that is a shambles.”

Shocking slight on loyal fans

We’re not having that Moose, this Irons side deserves much more respect and so do the fans.

Talk of relegation next season is mindless tripe.

He’s completely dismissed the talent at the club that is helping to drive us to an improbable top-four finish that would bring with it the glitz and glamour of the Champions League next season.

Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Jesse Lingard are candidates for the Premier League team of the season after some sensational displays under David Moyes and we can’t see them dropping like a stone next year just because fans are back in stadium.

They’ve got more about them than that, Moyes has just given them a solid platform for them to go on and express their talents.

Furthermore we’ve already picked up 24 points away from home this season, seven more than the previous campaign and we still have four games remaining.

It was also a complete disrespect to West Ham fans – yes we’re demanding, so are all supporters of big clubs, but it’s not the completely toxic atmosphere Moose makes it out to be.

If we’re playing this sort of football next season expect fans to be absolutely buzzing and the ground shaking.
