Trevor Sinclair bewildered by Jesse Lingard decision on West Ham

Jesse Lingard’s decision to not sign for West Ham United this summer has left Trevor Sinclair bewildered.

The Manchester United attacker personally told David Sullivan he didn’t want to rejoin the club permanently [90min].

Sinclair insisted that there is not enough ambition from Lingard, claiming that he would be the main man at the London Stadium.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Sinclair was left bewildered by the decision of Lingard after last season’s success.

“He’s not as ambitious as I’d like him to be,” he said.

“I’m slightly confused that he didn’t want to take the West Ham job permanent and sign for them. He was loved there, he was the main man.

“He played one time for Manchester United in 2021, he played 16 for West Ham. He got double-figure goals, got back in the England squad, why would you not want to be in that environment.”

Confusing.

It appears as though the only reason behind Lingard’s decision was family.

Whilst everyone can sympathise with the playmaker, it still didn’t affect anything last season and he played the best football of his career.

Lingard has recently rejected a new contract at Old Trafford too over playing time concerns, which simply adds to the confusion.

A move was on the table ready for him, to a place where he was settled and loved as Sinclair mentions in this latest justified rant.

Things may still change as the year progresses and opportunity potentially comes more limited, with a free deal on the table from July.

If David Moyes can keep a close eye on this situation, he could look to seal a loan move until then and that will allow the Irons to start talks over a pre-contract before a free move – we can all wish.
