Tony Cottee sends David Moyes message ahead of final West Ham United home game in charge

Tony Cottee has sent David Moyes a message to say thank you for his time in charge of West Ham ahead of his final home game as manager.

The Scot will leave the Hammers at the end of his contract this summer, with the club expected to replace him with Julen Lopetegui.

Cottee recently admitted that he wasn’t a fan of the appointment, but now the Irons legend has sent a message to the long-time coach and admitted that he won’t be fully appreciated until after he’s gone.

“I’m looking forward to giving Moyesy the send off he deserves today,” he wrote via his personal X account (11 May). “Like all great players and managers, you are never fully appreciated until you’ve left the club.

“Thank you for the last five years, it has been an incredible rollercoaster ride but the memories of that night in Prague will live with my family and us Hammers forever.

“Thank you Moyesy.”

Thank you David Moyes, from West Ham

The Premier League season is grinding to a halt now and West Ham don’t have much to play for after recent results, but that is not what the game against Luton will be about.

Luton are battling to avoid relegation, but the Hammers will be gearing up to say goodbye to their most successful manager in recent history and know this is the perfect time to do it.

There is little pressure on the performance or the result in reality, but a win can help the team to achieve a top-half finish this season and if the performance is good it could set Moyes up for a new job ahead of the new season.

Fans have been calling for Moyes to leave but not because he is doing a bad job, but more because the feeling is that the club can do even better with a forward-thinking manager.

Everyone involved at the London Stadium knows how much Moyes has done for the team in the last five years, and he will get a huge send off and a huge thank you from the fans before they part ways.
