Tony Cottee reacts as West Ham United close in on Danny Ings transfer

Tony Cottee has reacted to the news that West Ham are closing in on the signing of Aston Villa striker Danny Ings, saying he’s a “good option” for David Moyes.

Sky Sports [19 January] are claiming that the Hammers have completed the signing of centre-forward Danny Ings from Aston Villa.

A statement from both clubs regarding the deal is set to be announced, with Ings aiming to complete [19 January] the move in time for the Hammers’ crucial Premier League clash with fellow strugglers Everton.

And Cottee took to his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning [19 January] to arouse some debate and thoughts on West Ham’s first signing of the January window.

He tweeted [19 January]: “With Scamacca out for a short while, I think Ings could be a good option. What are your thoughts Hammers fans….Would you go for anyone else?”

Quality

With Gianluca Scamacca out of action for a short while with injury and Michail Antonio struggling to replicate the heights of last season in attack, it was imperative Moyes got in a proven Premier League goalscorer to fire them back up the league table.

And Ings is a quality and smart addition to the Hammers squad. The 30-year-old is a proven Premier League goalscorer, scoring 68 goals from under 200 English top flight across four clubs.

West Ham

The Hammers have been dreadful in front of goal so far this campaign, scoring 15 goals from their 19 league games, hence their lowly position of 18th in the table.

If Moyes and his team can provide Ings with the room and quality around him to thrive, he could well single-handedly fire the Hammers up the league table, and improve on their dreadful form.

The pressure now is on Moyes to deliver on the board’s belief that he can steer them out of trouble.
