Tony Cascarino predicts position change for West Ham United ace Declan Rice at next club
Tony Cascarino has predicted that West Ham ace Declan Rice will be utilised in both midfield and defence at his next club.
The pundit noted that it would be an “easy job” for the Hammers captain to do as he nears an exit from the London Stadium.
West Ham have pushed Arsenal to bring an end to the transfer saga involving the player [talkSPORT, 24 June], although Manchester City are closing in on his signature [Gianluca Di Marzio, 22 June].

“At his next club, he is going to play at the heart of a defence, as well [as midfield],” Cascarino said live on talkSPORT. “Not just as a midfielder, he will be used in that position.
“I think Declan Rice can play in that position for fun, I think it’s an easy job for him to do.”

More than capable
West Ham and England ace Rice is absolutely more than capable of shining at centre-back, but it’s clear that he was born to shine in a defensive midfield role.
The two positions have various similarities, with tough tackling and keeping hold of the ball very important in both areas, particularly the latter if Rice was to go to either Arsenal or Manchester City.
The England international has even shown his abilities in the final third in recent times, proving that he really is a fantastic all-round player.
Arsenal certainly had defensive issues last season due to injuries, and manager Mikel Arteta could be tempted to put Rice in there if needed, if of course that is where the player chooses to go this summer.
A role at centre-back seems much less likely at the Etihad, however, given the long list of central defenders that Pep Guardiola has at his disposal.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made an approach to sign one 16-goal striker this summer as they look to strengthen their attack.
