Tony Cascarino compares West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen to Mo Salah

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino believes West Ham have got their own version of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in Jarrod Bowen.

The Hammers winger got two assists and won a penalty in the 4-1 win over Watford on Tuesday afternoon, continuing his excellent form so far for David Moyes’ side this season.

It moved him up to three goals and six assists so far as the Irons continue to hunt a European place finish for the second consecutive season.

But in a game where he shone, former West Ham player Cascarino was speaking live on talkSPORT when he said that the uncapped Englishman reminds him of Liverpool superstar Salah.

“He had an amazing goal record at Hull City before West Ham bought him,” he said. “It was something like 50-odd goals in 120 appearances. That’s not bad for someone who is not a natural centre forward.

“He’s direct and he’s a bit like Salah where he always seems to get a chance in a game and will run at people and play in different positions. He has great energy. He will help his full-back out all the time.

“He’s come on leaps and bounds and you have to give David Moyes credit for that. He’s stayed with him.”

Big praise

Obviously being compared to one of the best players in the world right now is huge praise, but it’s totally deserved for Bowen.

His form has been a bright light during this poor run for West Ham recently and it’s only right that it was his excellent performance that helped them to register a decisive win.

David Moyes has admitted that they would like to get more goals out of Bowen and that’s the natural next step, but as Cascarino says his record isn’t awful considering.

If he can take that step and take his game up to the next level then it won’t be a surprise to see the likes of Liverpool make a move to bring him to their club where he can challenge for honours and play in Europe on a regular basis.

Bowen is a regular and a fan favourite for the Hammers so they’d hate to see him leave, but like many before him they wouldn’t begrudge him the opportunity to go and maximise his potential elsewhere if he deserved it.
