TNT Sports Commentator gushes over ‘fantastic’ West Ham United star Maxwel Cornet after what he did v Sheffield United
Darren Fletcher was left wowed by Maxwel Cornet after his “fantastic” finish put West Ham ahead in the first half of their xxx against Sheffield United on Sunday (21 January).
David Moyes’ side headed into the break at Bramall Lane level at 1-1 on Sunday thanks to a Maxwel Cornet volley and Ben Brereton Diaz’s equaliser before half-time.
The Hammers rode their luck at times as the home side wasted several decent opportunities to take the lead and Moyes’ men proved wasteful in possession.
With the Irons depleted after injuries to Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez and the absence of Mohammed Kudus at AFCON, it was a chance for Cornet who’s been linked with a move to Turkey (Takvim, 11 December) to step up in their absence.
The Ivorian delivered with his first West Ham goal, smashing in an impressive volley after Danny Ings’ shot was blocked and TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher, reacting live on air (21 January, 2:30 pm) was left gushing over Cornet’s finish.
He said: “That is a fantastic finish by Cornet, who grabs his first goal in West Ham colours.”
Timely
It was indeed a fantastic goal from the Ivorian winger who hasn’t enjoyed the best of careers in East London and is already being touted as one of the players Moyes must let go (Claret & Hugh, 8 December) of to sign new players this month.
Injuries have played a massive part in Cornet’s downfall in East London but his lack of minutes will be a personal concern for him given he is currently in his prime years and he is clearly out in the cold under Moyes.
The 27-year-old appeared to be on his way out of East London in the summer transfer window but stayed put as a move to Everton fell through due to concerns over his injury record.

However, with Paqueta and Kudus absent in attack for the Irons right now, it is certainly Cornet’s chance to shine and that goal at Bramall Lane will give him all the confidence he needs to prove himself to Moyes.
