Tim Steidten to be handed more power at West Ham as major backroom exits are confirmed
West Ham have confirmed major changes to their backroom staff ahead of Julen Lopetegui’s arrival at the London Stadium.
As per the club’s official website (22 May), first-team coaches Billy McKinlay, Kevin Nolan, John Heitinga and Henry Newman have all left West Ham along with David Moyes.
It follows news that head of player recruitment Rob Newman has also left the London Stadium.
Following Newman’s departure, technical director Tim Steidten will be given the power to lead on transfers with the Lopetegui era set to get underway later this week (via Evening Standard, 22 May).
West Ham preparing for the Julen Lopetegui era at the London Stadium
It is no surprise that so many changes are being made behind the scenes at the London Stadium.
Moyes had been an ever-present figure in East London over the past five years, but with the 61-year-old no longer in charge, things are set to look a little different.
Every manager has their own unique way of doing things, and Lopetegui will be bringing plenty of his people with him as they look to lead the Hammers forward.
However, following in Moyes’ footsteps won’t be an easy task.
While things ended on a rather sour note for the Scotsman and his staff, there is no doubt that Moyes’ time in charge of West Ham was a large success.

He took the club on some memorable European journeys, lifted the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023, and achieved three top-nine finishes.
Replicating that won’t be easy, but Lopetegui sure looks set to give it a good go with his staff around him.
In other West Ham news, Lopetegui’s first task will be to convince one “outstanding” star to stay put.
