Tim Steidten pressure emerges after what has happened at West Ham United

Tim Steidten is taking a bit of heat at West Ham after a couple of failed transfers during the summer, Alex Crook has revealed.

Niclas Fullkrug has caused frustration at the London Stadium due to the extended nature of his injury, having arrived from Borussia Dortmund on a £27million deal during the summer transfer window.

Luis Guilherme is another signing who has been rarely seen in the first-team set-up, having only made one substitute appearance in the Premier League, while Jean-Clair Todibo took a while to adapt to the league.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Friday (8 November, 11:35am), Crook said: “I was told that there is a bit of attention turning towards Tim Steidten, the technical director, over a couple of the signings he made that haven’t particularly worked out, not least Niclas Fullkrug.”

David Sullivan was actually praised for the amount of investment during the summer transfer window, with a plethora of new faces coming through the doors, but that all seems to have vanished now.

That is always the case in football. If the results aren’t there, the fans need an outlet, and Steidten clearly failed to find the right signings that Julen Lopetegui needed for the new season.

A new striker was a much-needed addition as Michail Antonio continues to struggle in the final third and Danny Ings remains on the bench, but Fullkrug does not look to be the answer.

The Hammers have awful luck when it comes to signing strikers. You only have to mention Sebastien Haller, Gianluca Scamacca or Lucas Perez to make fans cringe.

Of course, it seems a little early to cast Fullkrug in the same bracket as those forwards, but with emotions running high at the London Stadium, the blame has to fall at someone’s feet.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are interested in signing a French attacker, with his club ready to sanction a January exit.
