Tim Steidten on borrowed time as further West Ham revelations emerge
Tim Steidten only has a 50 per cent chance of being in his role at West Ham United by the time June comes around, Sean Whetstone has said.
Reporting via the West Ham Football X account (10 January), the Hammers insider has shared that the German is now on “borrowed time” at the London Stadium.
The report also adds that some new “revelations” have come to light regarding what happened with Julen Lopetegui’s sacking as Steidten is now being accused of “undermining” the Spaniard during his time with the Hammers.
“West Ham technical director Tim Steidten appears to be on borrowed time after the dismissal of Julen Lopetegui on Wednesday,” Whetstone wrote.
“Sources close to the club have given the German of no more than 50 percent of still being in post in June.
“Further revelations are emerging about Steidten’s relationship with the former head coach with Lopetegui’s team accusing the German of undermining him while in post.
“Although Steidten was originally involved in the interviewing of Graham Potter it was telling that Karren Brady took over the final negotiations in the last 48 hours of the deal with the technical director excluded.
“Steidten showed Potter around the Rush Green training ground yesterday afternoon introducing him to staff but was not included in many official club photos or videos of the new coach which is also telling.
“The board remain disappointed with last summer’s transfer dealings which Steidten oversaw, the money spent on Luis Guilherme and Fullkrug has been questioned together with the signings of Jean-Clair Todibo, Carlos Soler and Guido Rodríguez.
“Accounts released last week reveal West Ham spent £110m over the summer.”
West Ham United need to get rid of Tim Steidten
Although West Ham have just got rid of their manager, it feels like more change is afoot due to the way the Hammers have performed this season.
Potter has only just been appointed as West Ham boss and it’s obviously still too early to judge how things are going with the Englishman not yet being in charge of a game.
However, if David Sullivan wants to better his team and perhaps make them regular contenders for the European places in the Premier League, reinforcement is needed and Steidten has yet to prove he can be trusted to deliver that.

The likes of Niclas Fullkrug and Luis Guilherme have hardly been given any game time and while the former has spent most of his time at the club injured, from the glimpses we’ve seen, it doesn’t feel like he’s a Premier League-quality striker.
Before the summer transfer window comes around, change is needed otherwise, West Ham could find themselves in the exact same place they are now next season.
