Tim Steidten admits Liverpool interest an honour as West Ham United breaks silence – Sky Sports
Tim Steidten has admitted it is “an honour” that Liverpool are interested in him but the West Ham technical director says there has been no contact, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist reported via Twitter on 14 February his compatriot’s reaction to reports that he is wanted to join the operation at Anfield.
An offer to poach the former Bayer Leverkusen man from the London Stadium is expected, despite Steidten only joining the Irons in the summer [Daily Mail, 31 January].
Plettenberg wrote: “Excl. Tim Steidten, Technical Director of West Ham. Interest from LFC?
“I’ve heard that I am supposed to be on the list at Liverpool. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so it’s an honour. But so far nobody from LFC has contacted me yet.“
“I generally feel very comfortable at West Ham. I quickly realised how intense this league is. Accordingly, we signed the right players in the last transfer windows. The squad is strong, so we can achieve our goals.“
“I am looking forward facing the next weeks and months until the end of the season. Of course we are already planing the next window. What happens to the future, we will see.“
Steidten says no Liverpool contact amid comfort at West Ham
The German has quickly become a key figure at the London Stadium so the threat of an exit to Liverpool was clearly not part of the plan at this stage.
He was hailed for a key role in signing Mohammed Kudus in the summer, with the indication that David Sullivan has put major trust in him from the off.
But it hasn’t apparently been entirely plain sailing as it is thought that he and David Moyes haven’t always seen eye to eye over transfer targets.
The manager’s future is one again in the spotlight, and while there has seemingly been a risk of one or the other leaving ever since clashes between the pair emerged over the summer it would cause significant instability if both went.
It doesn’t sound like anything concrete has happened to solidify the link with the Reds but Steidten’s response likely also won’t dampen speculation, since he hasn’t ruled a switch out and was complimentary of the Merseysiders.
So movement presumably isn’t imminent but the door doesn’t look to be entirely closed, and when there is certainly a feeling that the West Ham board are more minded to back Steidten than Moyes in the longer term this won’t be helpful to them.
