Thomas Tuchel labelled Wish version of Jose Mourinho amid West Ham United links

Mark Goldbridge has labelled Thomas Tuchel as the Wish version of Jose Mourinho amid the recent reports linking him with West Ham.

Speaking to talkSPORT on Thursday (29 February), the pundit said Liverpool, Barcelona and Manchester United “shouldn’t go anywhere near” the German once he leaves Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

He added that the former Chelsea manager’s talent recruitment is “abysmal” as he suggested the 50-year-old is a “good fit” for the Hammers after they have been linked with bringing him in to replace David Moyes at the London Stadium.

“I don’t see what the CV is to say, ‘Come to Manchester United’, I think it’s a big red flag,” said Goldbridge. “I’d rather go for a Roberto De Zerbi or the Sporting Lisbon coach [Ruben Amorim], or Hansi Flick or someone like that than go for Thomas Tuchel, who is fast becoming a Wish version of Jose Mourinho.

“Except that he’s also got nowhere near the CV of Mourinho, but it’s almost like, ‘Oh it’s Thomas Tuchel, we’ve got to go and get him’. I don’t get it. Liverpool won’t go anywhere near him, I don’t think Barcelona would, although their club is in an absolute mess, and Manchester United shouldn’t go anywhere near him.

“I also think his talent recruitment is abysmal. People will say, ‘Well he bought Harry Kane’, but I would have bought Harry Kane. He hasn’t got a great track record of getting on with owners of clubs either, so absolutely not, I don’t think Man United will go anywhere near him, I think it’s just his agent trying to tout him around.

“I think he’d be a good fit for West Ham. I think that’s about where he is at the moment.”

Harsh criticism of Thomas Tuchel amid West Ham links

It’s no surprise to hear Goldbridge go completely over the top and make his assessment of Tuchel quite personal as he is often a fairly harsh critic.

While the German has perhaps underwhelmed at Bayern Munich, he’s still had a pretty successful time as a manager, having won numerous trophies over the past few years.

His biggest achievement was taking over a struggling Chelsea side midway through the season and guiding them to the Champions League trophy before being harshly sacked at Stamford Bridge.

There are question marks surrounding him following the season he’s endured with the Bundesliga giants, but he is still more than capable of managing a team in Europe and he would be a coup for the Hammers.

It all depends on whether or not Moyes will continue in charge beyond this campaign, but Tuchel would be right at the top of most of the Irons’ fans lists if the position were to become available this summer.
