This is the West Ham sensation making waves at Rush Green who could buck trend since Declan Rice
West Ham have several promising youngsters on their books.
Nineteen-year-old Ollie Scarles has played well since being integrated into the first team last season.
Fellow Rush Green graduate George Earthy had a successful spell at Bristol City last season, while Callum Marshall came off the bench in the recent 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
However, West Ham haven’t been able to successfully replace Declan Rice since his departure in 2022, yet a 16-year-old wonderkid is being touted as the future replacement.

Martin Peychev could become the next Declan Rice
Rice moved to Arsenal in July 2023 after winning the UEFA Conference League with West Ham.
However, the man who could replace his importance in the future could be 16-year-old Martin Peychev.
The young talent has represented Bulgaria at youth level and is a technical, box-to-box midfielder who is known for his excellent passing.
Jacob Steinberg has now written in an article for The Guardian about how impressive Peychev could prove to be for the Hammers, saying he is “making waves” at Rush Green.
Steinberg added: “Rice seems an outlier at the Academy of Football. Others have made fleeting appearances at senior level, but there appears to be a shortage of homegrown talent in East London at the moment.
“West Ham will hope that Peychev can buck the trend.”
Having played for West Ham since Under-9 level, Peychev certainly has what it takes to become a first-team star in the future.
Rice is hardly an easy player to replace, yet the decisions made to bring in ageing midfielders, particularly in the past two seasons, have been concerning.
West Ham have sorely missed a dynamic midfielder since Rice left
West Ham have recruited terribly when it comes to filling the role that was left by Rice.
Guido Rodriguez was an abysmal signing, and the 31-year-old has started just one match for the Hammers this season.
Edson Alvarez has also been slammed by pundits for his lack of energy, and it follows a common theme of poor transfers made to replace Rice.
First-team midfielders West Ham have signed since July 2023:
- Soungoutou Magassa: 2025-26
- Mateus Fernandes: 2025-26
- Guido Rodriguez: 2024-25
- James Ward-Prowse: 2023-24
- Kalvin Philipps (loan): 2023-24
- Edson Alvarez: 2023-24
Whilst Magassa and Fernandes need time, it can be comfortably said that none of these players have been an overwhelming success at the London Stadium.
As for Peychev, he has a long way to go before he is ready to fill those boots, yet the future looks increasingly bright for the promising talent.
