‘This club is a joke’ – These West Ham fans react to player departure
West Ham United centre back Winston Reid has served the club with distinction for many years now, 10 in fact.
He arrived from Danish giants FC Midtjylland in 2010, and has been a stalwart in the Hammers backline for much of the time since.
However, for the past two years – near enough – he’s endured horrific bad luck with injuries, and hasn’t featured for the first team.
So it was no surprise that the club confirmed that he’d joined Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City on loan on Saturday morning.
The player’s departure wasn’t a sore spot for most Hammers fans, rather it was the Irons’ delayed announcement that angered them.
The MLS team, you see, had informed the world of the player’s arrival in Kansas City on Friday night.
For many supporters of the east London club, they felt that that was disrespectful to a player who had served them for a decade.
One of them labelled the Hammers a ‘joke’ as they made clear their feelings on the club’s handling of Reid’s departure.
