Thilo Kehrer interested in West Ham United as club hold talks with PSG - Sky Germany

Thilo Kehrer is interested by a potential move to West Ham as the club engage in talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sign him, Florian Plettenberg reports.

The Hammers badly need help in central defence after opening the season with Ben Johnson playing in the middle next to Kurt Zouma, with all other options injured and Issa Diop refusing to play ahead of a move to Fulham.

German international Kehrer has been identified as a key target to address the injury crisis, and will reportedly cost around €20million [£17million], which is hampering negotiations.

Sky Germany reporter Plettenberg wrote on his personal Twitter account on Monday evening: “West Ham is seriously considering his transfer. Talks took place but negotiations not easy due to high demands.

“PSG wants around €20m. WHUFC is interesting for Thilo. They want him as a central defender. No agreement on personal terms so far.”

Good chance?

It sounds like half the battle is won if the player is interested in making the move to the London Stadium, and after the Amadou Onana debacle that is clearly vital.

The fee is still a relatively heavy outlay though, especially when he will likely want pretty big wages, which was the issue that put paid to the move for the now-Everton midfielder.

If an agreement can be reached with PSG to reduce the cost slightly it should at least be cancelled out by the Diop sale.

Then it will be a matter of negotiating with the 25-year-old German to find a suitable arrangement, and fans will have to hope that it will be more successful than the last time if the club gets that far.

It does at least look like West Ham is reacting to the situation with urgency right now, after Erling Haaland found himself up against their sixth-choice option in the centre of the back line.

After being burned on the Jesse Lingard pursuit the Hammers responded by launching into talks for a number of targets, going after Filip Kostic and Piotr Zielinski, before replacing both with Maxwel Cornet and Onana respectively.

Although the latter ended up falling through the hope has to be that they are looking to solve the new pressing issue with the same commitment now.
