There’s a ‘very real chance’ West Ham United could lose Declan Rice to Chelsea – journalist

CBS journalist Ben Jacobs believes Declan Rice could leave West Ham for Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea continue to be interested in West Ham captain Declan Rice [Daily Mail], and it seems the Hammers will have to fend off interest yet again in January and next summer.

Rice came through the West Ham academy and has grown to become a vital part of the side despite being just 23 years old.

However, according to journalist Jacobs – who features for CBS – Rice could finally complete a move to the Blues.

Writing via Twitter, Jacobs claimed there is a “very real chance” that Todd Boehly signs Rice for Chelsea.

Fighting the inevitable

No matter how many times West Ham fend off interest or put extortionately large asking fees on Rice, he always seems to remain in the headlines over a move away from the Hammers.

It’s completely understandable given Rice’s world-class ability, but there will be many West Ham fans hoping for just one peaceful transfer window without having to worry about the swirling rumours.

West Ham

There’s no doubt that West Ham will do whatever possible to try and keep Rice in east London, but the club’s biggest fear will be missing out on a gargantuan fee and then seeing him leave for free.

Thankfully, Rice’s contract doesn’t expire until 2025 [Sportrac] but if Chelsea do arrive with a £100m+ bid this summer then it may be too hard to turn down.

It’d be a huge loss and hopefully the board turn things around and tie Rice down to a new contract. But at the moment it seems like the Hammers are fighting the inevitable and that Rice’s time at the London Stadium is running out.
