The Athletic: West Ham likely to turn to other targets after Alex Kral’s underwhelming Euros
West Ham manager David Moyes showered praises on Czech Republic midfielder Alex Kral ahead of Euro 2020, but the youngster disappointed.
The Hammers boss included the Spartak Moscow man in his Sunday Times column as one of the ‘magnificent seven players’ to keep an eye on this summer.
Trusted West Ham source ExWHUEmployee claimed that Kral had agreed to personal terms with West Ham, with an agreement between the two clubs the only thing left.
However, the Hammers could be pulling out of a deal, according to The Athletic.
They claim on their website that “there is every chance West Ham will turn their attention to other targets” after his underwhelming form at the European Championship.
Not good enough
Kral had the chance to impress Moyes and West Ham at the tournament after starting the game against Scotland, but failed to take it.
Despite Czech’s 2-0 win in the opener, the midfielder was not able to inspire proceedings and was withdrawn after 67 minutes.
He started on the bench against Croatia and England, coming on in both games to no effect.
Given the quality of the Premier League, Kral could struggle to hit the ground should he move to the London Stadium after what we have seen.
He did not look anywhere near his club form and most Hammers fans would have been left disappointed.
While that could possibly be down to the uncertainty surrounding his future, that Kral did not even impress in fits and starts is worrying.
Compiling a reel of his best moments from the 120 minutes he spent on the pitch at the tournament would be impossible, and it would be surprising should a move to West Ham remain on the cards this summer.
Judging a player on the back of three games and a tournament is not advisable, but we needed to see Kral prove his worth for a couple of minutes and he failed to do that.
We need to strengthen the midfield in the coming weeks for the campaign, and it seems Moyes will be looking elsewhere.
