The Athletic: David Moyes could face sack at West Ham United after ‘louder rumblings of dissatisfaction’

David Moyes finds himself under huge pressure at West Ham, and The Athletic report “dissatisfaction” behind the scenes at the London Stadium.

The Hammers enjoyed a superb start to their Europa Conference League this season, but Premier League results have been well below par with the Irons set to spend Christmas hovering just above the relegation zone in 16th.

League results will always be a manager’s bread and butter and Moyes has failed to deliver at a good enough standard, especially after a summer of such heavy spending.

The Scot managed to keep hold of his job over the World Cup break, but The Athletic report that things aren’t all rosy in the London Stadium boardroom.

“The crisis baton has ended up being passed on to West Ham, who are struggling to muster the energy and the drive that defined their previous two seasons under David Moyes,” wrote The Athletic’s Oliver Kay.

“There have been louder rumblings of dissatisfaction at West Ham, where expectations were high after spending around £150million in the summer.

“Logically, Moyes would appear to have done enough to deserve patience, but such logic rarely applies for long when a team is on a losing run.”

Time to reset

No West Ham fan will deny their frustration and anger at a very poor start to the Premier League campaign, but Moyes has earned himself the chance to turn things around.

He’s done a superb job at the London Stadium in recent seasons and his European record shows he’s still capable of getting the team playing well.

While a lot of money has been spent, a number of signings are yet to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League. Thilo Kehrer is still settling into the defence, while Lucas Paqueta looks like a completely different player compared to his performances in Europe.

Moyes has definitely made some bizarre decisions and tactical mistakes in recent months but he’s also had to deal with an evolving squad and lots of new faces.

Many of the new signings may enjoy a more successful second half to the season after their initial settling-down period, so Moyes at least deserves a good shot of turning things around.
