‘Thankful’ – Jack Wilshere opens up on West Ham United exit

Jack Wilshere has admitted his frustration over his recent spell ending at West Ham United.

The England international was on £100,000-a-week at the London Stadium and mutually agreed to terminate his deal.

West Ham looked to free up those big-money wages in order to help their transfer business, something which hasn’t materialised as of yet.

Wilshere didn’t have a bad word to say about David Moyes, thanking him for being open over his chances of featuring for the Irons.

“It didn’t turn out the way I wanted to at West Ham and I was frustrated at that, but that is football,” he told talkSPORT.

“At the end of the day the manager picks his team and it is difficult once he has his team to change that.

“I thought maybe I would get more of a chance this year but I was thankful to him (David Moyes) that he made it clear to me that I wasn’t (in his plans) and it was probably in my best interests that I left and tried to find something else, so I did and here I am.

“I have been fit since February and I am ready to go. I knew I wasn’t going to play at West Ham and could have stayed and sat there but I thought I couldn’t lose another year of my career.”

Wilshere has left the London Stadium gracefully, and he will always be welcome back despite his failure to leave an impression.

The 28-year-old featured against Hull earlier in the season and has only managed six starts in the Premier League since leaving Arsenal.

On those sort of wages that Wilshere was on, Moyes will have been wanting the midfielder to be starting most games and starring, never mind sitting in the stands.
