Terry Westley blown away by West Ham sensation Dan Chesters

West Ham youngster Dan Chesters has impressed former academy boss Terry Westley after making his senior debut recently.

The 19-year-old came off the bench against Genk in the Europa League last week and enjoyed a four-minute cameo in front of a full house at the London Stadium.

This game was a long time coming and Westley has waxed the teenager’s lyrical.

Speaking to Claret and Hugh, he said, “Who’s next? The answer is that there are three who I think will become first-team Hammers in the future. There’s midfielder Dan Chesters who appeared against Genk and is an excellent midfielder.”

Jamal Baptiste and Harrison Ashby are the two other youngsters Westley claims will go on to become senior players.

Bright future ahead

While four minutes is too little to judge a player, we’ve been tracking the progress of Chesters are delighted that he’s finally got his moment to shine.

Moyes is known to be a firm believer in academies and he’s made the right choice by handing the teenager his senior debut.

When he came off the bench, he was handed a roaring reception by the London Stadium faithful – which is just what a youngster needs in his first ever professional game.

He took little time to get his head into the back and quickly won back possession before setting up Mark Noble to start the counter attack.

Conor Coventry going on loan has opened the door for players like Chesters to come in and deliver and we’re hoping to see more of him in the coming weeks.

He is a defensive midfielder by trade but has featured further up the pitch for the U-23s so we can expect him to pop up anywhere and deliver solid performances.
