‘Terrific’ – BT Sport pundit gushes over West Ham ace last night v Lyon

BT Sport pundit Lucy Ward has reacted to the ‘terrific’ goal that West Ham defender Craig Dawson scored last night in the Europa League [April 14] against Lyon.

The centre-back scored the first of the Hammers’ three goals on the night whilst keeping the Ligue 1 side out at the other end – winning the tie 4-1 over the two legs.

David Moyes’ side can now look forward to a semi-final encounter against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking live on BT Sport [April 14, 20:40], she said: “It’s a terrific run from Dawson.

“It’s all about his attitude. He goes for it, he gets there first and he attacks the ball.

“They have obviously worked on that, they are so good at set-pieces.”

Powerhouse

The BT Sport commentary made a joke calling him ‘Ballon Dawson’ after his goal and his performance certainly justified it.

The Englishman was a rock at the back, allowing little to no-nonsense from the Lyon attackers in and around the box whilst making some superb blocks.

West Ham

Of course, his most notable contribution was the goal which ended up being the catalyst for West Ham to run away with the game.

It came at the perfect time for the Hammers – right before the halftime whistle – which allowed them to wrap the game up within ten minutes of the second half.

The Lyon players and crowd were shellshocked as the Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen bagged their goals in quick succession, leaving Peter Bosz’ side with no chance of salvaging the game.

If the Hammers play like that in the semi-final in what will be a much tougher tie against Frankfurt, they should knock them out and reach the final.

In other West Ham news, a BT Sport pundit has taken aim at “rash” Issa Diop.
