TalkSPORT pundit hints at West Ham United ace Jarrod Bowen’s thoughts after England call-up

Jarrod Bowen has been announced in the England squad for the upcoming Nations League games, joining his West Ham teammate Declan Rice.

The 25-year-old winger has enjoyed a fantastic season at the London Stadium and he perhaps could have been awarded his first involvement in March had he not picked up an injury against Liverpool days before the squad was announced.

There are four games for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions to play in this summer international window with Nations League and friendly matches to play.

TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor, who played three times for England in 2008 and 2009, gave an insight into what Bowen might be thinking ahead of his first England camp.

“When you get into that squad for the first time, all that will be going through his head is, ‘please bring me on, just get me that cap’,” Agbonlahor said.

“No, that two caps, you don’t want to be in the one-cap club. If you get two you can feel like you’ve done it so he’ll be excited, definitely.”

Overdue

There was a sense of ‘finally’ when Bowen’s name was listed among the best English talents in the world after such a good season that might have seen him awarded his first cap but, as mentioned, his untimely injury put a halt to that.

Rice will surely play a big part in integrating Bowen into the squad having been a regular in Southgate’s midfield for quite some time and the representation of West Ham in the Three Lions will grow.

Admittedly, it isn’t quite the same as 1966 when we famously won the World Cup but it is a step in the right direction that clubs like us get their English stars picked over the misfiring Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho.

Some of the more patriotic West Ham fans may have claimed that Craig Dawson (Ballon D’Awson as he’s sometimes known) could have been called up to the squad as well after a sensational second half of the season but it is hard to argue against Fikayo Tomori after his Serie A-winning 2021-22 with AC Milan.

In other West Ham news, they could be forced to pay through the nose for a striker this summer.
