talkSPORT broadcaster unsurprised as Tim Steidten question marks emerge at West Ham United
Tom Rennie is not shocked to see reports of question marks being raised over Tim Steidten’s decision to bring Niclas Fullkrug to West Ham.
According to talkSPORT [22 October], the Hammers are searching the transfer market for a new striker, with doubts being thrown over the technical director after £27million was spent to sign the German [BBC Sport].
Having suffered an Achilles injury during the international break in September, Fullkrug has only made four appearances and has not played for the Hammers since the 3-1 loss to Manchester City in August.
Reacting to the news, talkSPORT’s Tom Rennie wrote via X on Tuesday (22 October): “Injury prone, 32-year-old striker, who doesn’t fit the system at all. It was pretty obvious, to be fair.”
Tim Steidten concerns emerge at West Ham United amid Niclas Fullkrug injury
In hindsight, spending so much on the 32-year-old looks to be a bad investment from the club, but it is fair to say that the striker put on an impressive display at Euro 2024.
He also notched 12 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga last season, making over 40 appearances for Borussia Dortmund across all competitions over a single tournament.
Despite this, with a very quick search, it is easy to see just how injury-prone the striker has been over the years, missing several games for Hannover, Werder Bremen and the German national team [Transfermarkt].
With Michail Antonio and Danny Ings the only other two strikers at Julen Lopetegui’s disposal, the Hammers are struggling to get out of first gear in the final third of the pitch.
While West Ham Zone has been told reports of Steidten’s frustrations at the London Stadium are far from the truth, it all seems to be getting a big ugly in East London as the team continues to struggle on the pitch.
In other West Ham news, one player is surely regretting leaving the Hammers this summer after what happened recently.
