TalkSPORT broadcaster destroys Konstantinos Mavropanos, one of eight West Ham United stars without a future
Tom Rennie has destroyed eight Konstantinos Mavropanos for his display against Liverpool, suggesting he is one of eight West Ham United stars without a “future” at the London Stadium.
David Moyes’ side crashed out of the Carabao Cup in disastrous fashion, losing 5-1 at Anfield on Wednesday (20 December) with Jarrod Bowen’s second-half strike proving to be little more than a consolation goal.
While the Irons remain competitive both in the Premier League and Europe, talkSPORT broadcaster Rennie believes that defeat to Liverpool could spell the end for at least five West Ham players, including Pablo Fornals and Danny Ings.
Writing on his Twitter account (20 December) he said: “Tonight is probably the end of Ogbonna, Fornals, Ings, Johnson and Kerer. Cresswell, Mavropanos, Cornet and one or two others also don’t have any future.
“12-17 in the squad is a huge drop-off.”
A bit over the top
West Ham’s defeat on Wednesday was a bitterly disappointing way for the Hammers to exit the League Cup, but to suggest that it marks the end for potentially eight players at the London Stadium is a rather extreme statement in the grand scheme of things.
A couple of the players namechecked by Rennie certainly appear to be nearing the end of their time with the Hammers, with the likes of Pablo Fornals, Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer seemingly set to depart either in January or at the end of the season.

But to suggest that somebody like Mavropanos who was only brought to East London during the summer transfer window doesn’t have a future at the London Stadium is a bit over the top so early in the season.
The Greek centre-back hasn’t had the best start to life in the English game, but many players have taken time to adapt to the pace of the Premier League. His performances in the Europa League have shown that he has the quality to be successful, he just has to harness it.
It seems unlikely that Moyes will immediately cull eight players just because of a cup defeat. It wasn’t a good night for West Ham, but there is still plenty to be positive about in East London.
