Supercomputer predicts West Ham United relegation chances after 2-2 draw v Arsenal

West Ham United are expected to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season after their 2-2 draw with Arsenal, according to a supercomputer.

The Hammers found themselves 2-0 down inside ten minutes at the London Stadium after poor defending, but fought back thanks to goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen to earn a point and move four points clear of the relegation zone.

And according to FiveThirtyEight’s supercomputer (16 April) after the game, David Moyes’ side are expected to finish in 15th place now with 40pts and avoid the drop.

Breathing room

Where has a performance like that been all season when we’ve needed it the most?

The opening ten minutes of the game were embarrassing and we could easily have found ourselves completely out of the game. But we reacted well and ended up getting a fair draw.

That moves us four points away from the drop zone, and we have an extra game to play ahead of our rivals. We also have one of the better squads on paper and plenty of experience.

At this point it wouldn’t be crazy to start breathing a little more easily about our position in the table, but we cannot fall into the trap of believing that we are already safe.

West Ham

It we continue doing what we’ve been doing then it seems we’ll be able to avoid the drop and get back to Premier League planning for next year.

If the supercomputer says it, then it must be true right?

But ultimately the most important thing is that there are no excuses now for West Ham. They have showed that they are capable of playing to thins standard, and now they have no option but to deliver for the next eight weeks.
