Super computer shares West Ham United relegation chances after draw v Chelsea

West Ham United are expected to avoid relegation by a considerable margin after their draw against Chelsea at the weekend, according to a Super Computer.

The Hammers moved up to 16th place in the Premier League table with a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium at the weekend, and now prepare to travel across the city to face rivals Tottenham on Sunday (19 February).

And ahead of that game FiveThirtyEight have run the numbers and believe that the recent improved form of David Moyes’ side means they have just a 12% chance of relegation this season.

The Hammers are expected to finish the season on 41 points which would see them end up in 14th place, seven points above the relegation zone.

It’s predicted that Southampton will finish rock bottom of the table on 30 points, while Bournemouth and Everton complete the bottom three on 32 and 34 points respectively.

Phew

The quality in the West Ham squad has always been considered to be too good to go down, an performances in recent weeks have definitely seen the morale of the fans improve.

A win over Everton followed by back-to-back draws against high-flying Newcastle and huge spenders Chelsea have shown that we are capable of getting results and the players’ performances have improved too.

West Ham

The game against Tottenham will obviously be difficult, away from home against a fierce rival, but their midweek trip to Milan in the Champions League will likely see them more fatigued than usual.

After that there are more winnable fixtures for sure against the likes of Brighton, Southampton and Fulham, and more positive results there would likely see us pull away from the pack at the bottom.

Performances are on the up and the numbers are on our side, but hopefully the players don’t read too much into it and continue to improve to get up the table.
