Stuart Pearce shares ‘unbelievable’ verdict ahead of Tottenham v West Ham United

West Ham United’s match against Tottenham on Saturday (19 October) will be an “unbelievable” encounter that will ultimately end in an entertaining draw, Stuart Pearce has said.

Speaking on talkSPORT (15 October, 6:31pm), Pearce said that he was excited to watch the London derby as the Hammers return to Premier League action after the international break.

Noting that he was going to be part of the game’s coverage on 19 October, Pearce predicted a 2-2 scoreline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Julen Lopetegui’s side look to make it three Premier League games without defeat.

Pearce added: “I’m excited about Saturday. This is unbelievable. I’m covering the game and really looking forward to it.”

Julen Lopetegui must continue West Ham revival v Tottenham

The Hammers’ last London derby left many fans wondering whether or not appointing Lopetegui in the summer – and giving him over £150million to spend in the transfer window [Tony Cascarino, 5 October] –had been a good decision.

A run of three matches in a row against West London opposition saw the Irons pick up just two points from nine, salvaging 1-1 draws at Fulham and Brentford either side of a 3-0 drubbing by Chelsea.

Since then, though, Lopetegui has finally led an uptick in his side’s form, picking up only their second win of the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town last time out at the London Stadium.

Fans will be keen to see that win built upon against a rival as fierce as Spurs, and given the two are separated by just two points and four places in the table, Lopetegui will also fancy his side’s chances.

The Irons will certainly have Pearce’s backing in the commentary box, and with a chance to move eighth in the table, any doubts over Lopetegui will play second-fiddle to full-blooded support in North London.
