Stuart Pearce rubbishes suggestion West Ham star Tomas Soucek is tired

West Ham coach Stuart Pearce has rubbished suggestions that Tomas Soucek will be tired heading into the European Championships.

The Irons midfielder is set to play a key role for Czech Republic as they prepare to take on Scotland, England and Croatia, but a talkSPORT journalist told the radio station [14/06/21] that there are fears in his homeland that the 26-year-old may be fatigued.

“A Czech journalist has said their team looks tired, he mentioned Soucek looks like he’s had a long season,” he said.

“You are deluded,” Pearce hit back. “Soucek and Coufal are fresh as a daisy, I can absolutely assure you of that.

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist then teased Pearce. “He’s been overtraining them,” he said.

There’s no need for any Czechs to worry about Soucek, he’s shown that he has the physical capacity to last the distance.

It has been a long, arduous season for most footballers, with the effects of the ongoing pandemic meaning fixtures have been packed into a tighter schedule.

However, we have had the advantage of no European football, which means Soucek has not had to play as many games as many other stars at Euro 2020.

The towering midfielder played every single league match for the Irons in the 2020/21 campaign, and he also featured in three FA Cup games.

But that pales into insignificance when you consider some players from top-six sides have played over 50 games.

We don’t think Soucek will have a problem heading into Euro 2020, and he could be the leading light for his country this summer.
